| Dave and Barbara Whiteman (Richard Dreyfuss and Bette Midler) are a wealthy couple but they are not happy. Barbara has no interests other than meditating, doing aerobics, and practicing yoga. Dave makes a living in business and is sleeping with their maid. Their son, Max (Evan Richards), is uncertain about his sexual orientation, while their daughter, Jenny (Tracey Nelson), has a severe eating disorder, and their dog needs a canine psychiatrist. A bum called Jerry (Nick Nolte) tries to kill himself in their pool after losing his own dog, but Dave rescues Jerry and then the homeless man changes the family’s lives. |
